On 4 December 2018, the third annual conference of the M&A Institute of EBS Universität took place at the offices of Linklaters LLP in Frankfurt am Main.

More than 40 international students from all six continents have enrolled for their “EBS Law Term” at EBS Law School to study Transnational Commercial Law in Wiesbaden for a term in English.


Federal Economic and Energy Affairs Minister Peter Altmaier spoke to some 250 students and guests of the EBS Universität on “The present state of the social market economy”. Following the visits of FDP Chairman Christian Lindner and Deputy SPD Chairman Thorsten-Schäfer Gümbel to the EBS, the guests now had the opportunity to discuss the CDU’s economic concept.


On 8 October 2018, Prof. Dr. Dr. Martin Will was interviewed by hr-iNFO on the constitutional reform in Hesse.


No more distractions!


In what way do I need to change myself in order to meet today’s career requirements? And how does a company need to adapt itself to present-day change to ensure it is not overtaken by the latest trends? These are questions which the student organisers of this year’s EBS Symposium asked themselves. The title they gave the Economic Congress held for the 29th time on the EBS Castle Campus was “Embrace the Change!”


The Berufsverband Deutscher Markt- und Sozialforscher e.V. (BVM) (German Market and Social Research Association) has elected EBS Professor Franziska Metz as Young Researcher of the Year 2018. Her dissertation “The Journey and the Reward: A Longitudinal Study of Value Generation in Mass Customization Toolkits” convinced the jurors. The award was presented at the 53rd Congress of German Market Research in Hamburg.


A sensational, first-time EBS module to mark the beginning of the semester in August: the EBS Onboarding Project. In the first three weeks of their bachelor’s degree, around 100 students in eleven teams will be developing concepts for the successful introduction of autonomous driving in Germany. This will not only give them the opportunity to get to know the university, but they can also establish initial contacts with experts from the automotive industry.


The winners of the 27th round of the WiWi Talent Programme have been announced. This year, two of the 17 most talented students are from the EBS Universität.


The Hessen State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and the Arts has appointed Dr. Kerstin Hennig, head of the EBS Real Estate Management Institute (REMI), as honorary professor. She is now EBS Professor for Real Estate Management.


Congratulations to our graduating doctoral students, Ms Susanne Hügel and Mr Philipp Kremer, who successfully held their defenses to obtain their doctoral degree.


You think you can only ‘dîner en blanc’ in Paris? As the song goes: anything Paris can do, Wiesbaden can do better! In June, EBS University hosted a cosy picnic on the bowling green of the Kurhaus, based on the popular “White Dinner” event format, and provided a variety of refreshments in high summer temperatures.


In January of this year, EBS Universität’s shareholder SRH announced the project “Share your Good Fortune”. SRH would like to support its employees’ social commitment in the long term. Among others, Carmen Grahn applied for financial support for “her” project in Namibia. She sponsors a little girl there and was actively engaged in funding a laptop and projector for training purposes as well as organising film shows for the entire village.


At the end of the summer month of June, the EBS Real Estate Management Institute team set off for England to attend the ERES Conference.


EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht once again convinced in the Eduniversal Best Masters Ranking 2018 with its consecutive study programmes. EBS Master in Finance came first in the “Financial Markets” category in Germany and 21st in the world.


This event drew large crowds: despite very warm summer temperatures, around 120 applicants, parents and interested parties attended the Law School to inform themselves about the degree programmes, the admission procedure and the various financing options. The booths of the EBS partner law firms were particularly popular.


For 100 students, the topic at Global Day was a fairer world order


In May, under the heading “Together into the Future”, the town of Oestrich-Winkel, supported by the EBS Universität, organised their first economic forum. It offers local companies, the city and university experts the opportunity to network and exchange ideas on economic topics. In his presentation on the opportunities of online marketing, EBS Professor Dr. Arne Buchwald showed how medium-sized companies can hold their own against large companies.


Dr. Tobias Schäfers is joining Copenhagen Business School (CBS) as an Associate Professor of Marketing in September 2018. Dr. Schäfers has received his PhD degree at EBS University of Business and Law under supervision of Professor Dr. Roland Mattmüller (Chair of Stategic Marketing).


The second Doctoral Research Forum, under the motto “We connect business and law”, took place at the EBS Universität in May. At this cross-faculty event, doctoral students presented their projects and engaged in discussions with faculty members and company representatives. Around 50 participants came to find out about the young scientists’ research topics. And these were wide-ranging.


Lawyer? Entrepreneur? Or rather a stock market analyst? Choosing a career after leaving school is often not easy. At the Open Day, which traditionally takes place in April, the EBS Universität offers support in making that crucial decision. Whatever the outcome, one thing is very important at the EBS: after their studies, EBS graduates should be able to actively shape the world of tomorrow - for the benefit of all. Under the motto “Whatever the future brings, learn to shape it”, prospective students and interested parties were once again able to inform themselves about this year’s courses of study at the University.


Which features do town, market and office of the future need? And how much digitisation makes sense at all? This was the question the real estate experts were discussing at the 19th EBS Real Estate Congress under the title “Smart Real Estate: the future of real estate”. On April 20, 2018, the who’s who of the real estate business met at the EBS Universität to discuss every aspect of the topic intelligent systems in the real estate sector.


Thanks to “Very Inspirational People”, top managers find their mission in life during the EBS Workshop.


At the beginning of this year, the EBS Universität published its Values Study for 2017, together with the Values Foundation and with the support of the Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe (German Sports Aid Foundation). Researchers at the Strascheg Institute for Innovation, Transformation & Entrepreneurship (SITE) investigated and compared the personal values of athletes and founders. It emerged that both groups have a similar set of values but can still learn from each other in crucial areas.


Together with Dr. Andreas Gintschel of Prime Capital, Dr. Margherita Giuzio and Prof. Sandra Paterlini examined the components of private debt performance.


Christoph Wolf has been an assistant professor of criminal law and criminal procedure law at EBS University since May 2017. In the interview, he explains why, in most cases, ignorance of law does not protect against punishment and what is the secret behind EBS law graduates’ outstanding exam results.


Professor Daniel M. Klocke has held the Chair of Civil Law, Commercial Law, Labour Law and Legal Theory at EBS University since 1 September 2017. In this interview, he talks about the consequences of even the smallest differences in German and European contract law and about the special features of the EBS law study programme.

EBS Professor Sven Henkel is attending the WEF Conference in Davos from January 23 to 25. During the event “Frankfurt meets Davos”, he will be presenting the newly founded EBS Insight Mobility Institute in the Steigenberger Hotel Belvédère.


For many years, the Chair of Strategic Marketing under the leadership of EBS Professor Roland Mattmüller has had the opportunity to propose talented students for the WiWi Talents Top-Flight Academic Programme, and a number of EBS students have already been accepted for the Programme. This year, student Eileen Beuchel was successful: strong teamwork ability, a problem-oriented mind-set and excellent presentation skills form the basis of the recommendation to be admitted to the talent programme of WiWi-Talents.

The EBS Universität ranks seventh among the best universities for Business Administration in Germany. The WirtschaftsWoche University Ranking 2018 concludes in its recently published document. Over 500 German company recruiters provided information about which universities they prefer to recruit graduates from and which criteria are particularly important for them.


The Bible Museum in Frankfurt am Main has been planning an elaborate exhibition of the famous Dead Sea Scrolls of Qumran for several years. However, as neither the Federal Government nor the State of Hesse were willing to guarantee returning them to Israel, the German public will most likely never set eyes on the acclaimed bible texts.


Prof. Rasa Karapandza was able to reunite top founders, investors and tough leaders from the FinTech arena so that EBS students can develop theoretical and practical understanding of the forces transforming financial services globally. Students will learn about many entrepreneurial challenges, demystifying social media buzz words like blockchain, AI, roboadvisory and Fintech in general and will be learning from real cases and from FinTech leaders that are transforming the world of financial services.


What is the key to significant improvement in designer performance? Do intercultural relations at work promote creativity? And what can knowledge-based networks do to promote inventors’ innovativeness? These are the topics researchers all over the world are addressing. On November 23 they were rewarded for their work with the Best Paper Award “Innovation Management” of EBS Business School’s Strascheg Institute for Innovation, Transformation & Entrepreneurship (SITE).


Last week, the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) published the results of the university ranking of Master’s programmes in economic sciences: The EBS Universität is in the top group of German universities in twelve out of 13 categories.


The EBS M&A Institute’s second annual conference took place in Wiesbaden’s Kurhaus on December 6, 2017. Participants from the M&A departments of companies, legal consultants and investment banking came together to discuss current developments in the field of M&A: Shareholder Activism, Political Intervention, Tech Trends & Investments as well as the topic Legal Tech.


Prof. Paterlini has been invited to participate with her students at the European Rotman European Trading Competition as the representative for Germany. The Rotman European Trading Competition (RETC) is a three-day event built with the cooperation between the LUISS Guido Carli University of Rome and the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.


The first joint workshop with the innovative market leader for the improvement of drinking water BRITA, the new cooperation partner of the chair, took place on September 20, 2017.


The so-called Service Learning Projects are an integral part of the study programme at the EBS: students take active responsibility for the common good and consolidate learning content by helping in social institutions. This was now the seventh time bachelor students have organised a smartphone workshop for seniors and other residents in the multi-generation house in Oestrich-Winkel. Florian Trabert reports on the participants’ reactions and learning methods when faced with the “great unknown” smartphone.


On November 8, EBS exchange students made the “Study Abroad Fair” in the Kiep Center on Campus Schloss come alive: the various stands offered the German students insight into life at EBS partner universities. With films and culinary specialities, the proud country representatives provided cultural insight into their home countries. This certainly gave the students a better sense of which of the many universities presented on this occasion to choose for their semester abroad.


Which role does the classic car dealer play in the digital age? How will we buy cars in the future? And how will the Internet change the potential buyer’s information behaviour? These and other key issues were examined by six student teams from the EBS during a consulting field study conducted together with Mercedes-Benz Consulting.


On November 6, during the Wiesbaden Real Estate Talks, the Deutsche Anlage-Immobilien Verbund (DAVE) and the EBS Real Estate Management Institute for the second time awarded the 1,500 euro advancement prize to a top student. Prize winner this year is Daniel Kremer (31), currently Associate Director in Fund Management at Triuva.


Last weekend, the EBS University football team won a great victory at the WHU Euromasters 2017: led by Captains David Fenkel and Alexander Kronfli, the star kickers won the men’s football tournament final 3:0 against the team from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.


On November 7, residents of the refugee house of the Malteser e.V. in Lorch celebrated together with voluntary workers and EBS students.


Professional demands made on lawyers are changing rapidly. Nowadays, an increasing number of lawyers are working for companies, such as in the IT sector, rather than in law offices. This raises the question: what challenges are lawyers facing now and in the future in terms of increasingly ubiquitous technological progress and digitalisation?

To find this out, a group of 26 EBS students organised the fourth EBS Law Congress on October 26 and 27. Approximately 270 guests attended presentations and panel discussions in the overall context of “The law of new technologies”. The speakers came from companies such as SAP and Google, as well representatives from Hesse’s Central Agency for Combatting Cybercrime.

The Bachelor Introduction Week for the first year undergraduates took place in late summer atmosphere during the last week in August, on the EBS Business School’s Schloss Campus in Oestrich-Winkel. Apart from workshops, inauguration events and a Campus Race, the car manufacturer Tesla brought along some of their cars and gave some insight into their sales strategy. The town’s mayor, Michael Heil, also welcomed the new students.

The EBS opened its gates to film enthusiasts on August 4 and 5. The weather and the backdrop were perfect: surrounded by vineyards, the visitors of the short film festival “Shorts at Moonlight” first of all enjoyed live music accompanied by tarte flambée and a good glass of wine before the programme of short film highlights began as darkness fell.


Every week a “team meeting”, every week a “head meeting”. This is what it looked like for Tim Kleinpeter last year. Tim was chairman of the recent 28th EBS Symposium , that was held this year under the banner of “The next big thing”. Together with chairwoman Beke Flathmann and the entire team of 60 students, he was responsible for the organisation of an economic congress with 750 delegates from all over the world and renowned speakers such as Professor Andreas Dombret (Deutsche Bundesbank) or Professor Burkhard Schwenker (Roland Berger).


On September 18, members of the Rotary Club Wiesbaden-Rheingau enjoyed an exclusive tour around Schloss Reichartshausen in Oestrich-Winkel.


This is the fifth time the EBS Law School has welcomed international students at the beginning of the annual exchange programme EBS Law Term. From now until December, almost 50 participants from all over the world can familiarise themselves in four modules with the topic international commercial law.


On September 8, the EBS Law School said “Welcome” for the seventh time: The faculty welcomed their new students at the traditional enrolment ceremony. The future lawyers proudly entered their matriculation numbers into the “Golden Book” of the faculty in the Kiep Center of the Campus Schloss, thus officially beginning their study programme at the Law School, which was founded in 2010.


The paper “Asset allocation strategies based on penalized quantile regression” has been published in the journal Computational Management Science.


As a collaboration from the Chair of Financial Econometrics & Prime Capital, a paper explaining the drivers of private debt components has now been accepted for publication in the Journal of Alternative Investments.


For the second time in succession, EBS Professor Marjo-Riitta Diehl has been honoured with the “Best Reviewer Award” of the Journal of Organizational Behavior (JOB).


The EBS Moot Court took place for the first time at the Wiesbaden District Court on 14 July 2017. Eighteen students were given the chance to resolve fictitious legal disputes in court and conduct a trial before experienced judges. Also on board: EBS’ partner law firm Pöllath + Partners, specialists in corporate law, with two representatives coming specially from Munich to prepare the future lawyers for their day in court.


The EBS Real Estate Management Institute (REMI) and the association IMMOEBS e.V. held a joint event on July 18 in Hamburg under the heading “PropTech Boom - has the revolution been called off?”.


Two summer nights, seven short films and a prize-giving ceremony: the EBS will be opening its doors to film enthusiasts on August 4 and 5.


How do you wow a group of young men aged 18 to 25 with hygiene products? Three EBS students had the bright idea: with the catchphrase “Pimp my Sex Life”, they developed a range of intimate hygiene products for men, including an intimate hygiene foam, which can double up as shaving foam, and an intimate aftershave with a stimulating aroma and taste. Thanks to this idea, the team “The Best of Us” marched effortlessly through both national and European finals, landing directly at the international finals of the Marketing Challenge.


Hierarchies were hung up with the jackets: at 36 degrees in the shade, about fifty students discussed for all they were worth with fifty top managers, a company was founded and a sudden summer storm triggered spontaneous team-building.


Let’s get started: twelve young talents met “their” companies in the course of the initiative “Executive Practica”. The project, launched by the IHK Wiesbaden and the four local Rotary Clubs, supports particularly talented scholars in their choice of jobs and study programmes. For two to four weeks, the recent school graduates accompany executives in their everyday work. The twelve senior professionals met their future interns in EBS’ inspiring atmosphere for the first get-together.


At the Future Communication Conference on Thursday, June 22, 2017, 50 students and 50 senior managers (for instance, from TUI, Rewe, Porsche and DHL) strive to find communication strategies for tomorrow’s world of work. On the EBS Universität campus in Oestrich-WInkel, they work together in open-space workshops, from 10:00 to 17:30h, to find common solutions.

Marketingexcursion 2016: Munich in 3 Days


As internationally renowned Business School that regularly achieves excellent research results, on September 21, EBS hosted this year’s conference of the Strategic Management Society Rhine-Main subsidiary, a global teaching and research community with almost 3,000 members. A broad audience of about 30 specialists from research and practice used this forum in order to exchange on the topic “Coordination of Modern Forms of Organizational Work”.

The Master in Automotive Management has proofed a great success.
