Hamburg becomes the new home of EBS Master in Real Estate programme

05.05.2025

REaL Foundation as a key partner for networking, practice and career start

Die EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht (EBS) is relocating its Master's programme in Real Estate to Hamburg for the autumn semester 2025. This will position the realigned degree programme in one of Germany's strongest economic metropolitan regions - and at the same time in the centre of leading real estate companies, project developers and investment houses. With the change of location, EBS is combining its academically sound curriculum with an urban ecosystem that offers ideal conditions for project-orientated learning, professional experience and personal development. As a strategic partner, the Real Estate and Leadership Foundation e. V. (REaL Foundation) is supporting the relocation - and will become an even stronger bridge between the university and the industry in future.

The Hanseatic city is one of the most dynamic property markets in Europe. Topics such as sustainable urban development, digital business models, ESG-compliant investments and urban infrastructure characterise the economic discourse - and provide students with a challenging and future-oriented learning environment. With the new location, EBS is emphasising its self-image as a practice-oriented training centre for the managers of tomorrow.

REaL Foundation as a link to entrepreneurial practice
The strategic development of the programme is the result of the growing demand for study places in urban economic regions and is based on intensive cooperation with the REaL Foundation - a network of leading entrepreneurs and real estate companies based in Hamburg. The Foundation supports the study programme on several levels: through co-teaching, company visits, excursions, mentoring formats and by arranging interdisciplinary working student positions and practical projects.
A unique selling point is the direct relocation of teaching units to various companies, which has been successfully trialled with the REaL Foundation over the years. The resulting variety of perspectives - for example on the financing, planning and realisation of the same project - provides a deeper understanding of the complexity of entrepreneurial decisions.

‘With this step, we are strengthening EBS's value proposition of offering an excellent education in close cooperation with corporate partners. The intensified cooperation with the REaL Foundation provides our students with both an excellent network and unique direct access to the entrepreneurial reality of a wide range of players and specialist disciplines - simply geared towards solving the challenges of the future innovatively, successfully and responsibly,’ explains Nikolas Müller, Head of the EBS Real Estate Management Institute.

‘Strengthening university education in the property industry in Hamburg is exactly the right step at the right time. The next generation of entrepreneurs can learn the skills needed to find economic solutions to the social challenges facing our industry. As the REaL Foundation, we bear responsibility for this and, together with EBS University, are focussing on promoting the key skills of entrepreneurship, interdisciplinarity and social responsibility,’ says Alexander Knälmann, member of the REaL Foundation's Executive Board and Managing Director and founder of apoprojekt.

Flexible study structure for work and study
The full-time programme offers the greatest possible flexibility with a work-study model: the courses are concentrated on up to three weekdays - leaving room for practical professional experience, for example in the form of working student activities. Attendance phases at the original location in Oestrich-Winkel - such as onboarding and a spring academy - round off the study experience.

Academic standards and international recognition
The Master in Real Estate remains RICS-accredited and combines traditional real estate fundamentals with content from the fields of planning and construction, engineering and leadership skills.
The curriculum is supplemented by modules on digitalisation, data analytics and Python - key skills for data-driven business models in the industry.
