What can family firms do to make their employees more satisfied?

While money can’t buy happiness, an increasing number of companies invests heavily in job benefits in order to retain core employees and become more attractive on the job market. In their new study, EBS researcher Matthias Waldkirch together with Nadine Kammerlander and Stephanie Querbach (WHU Institute of Family Business & Mittelstand) investigate which types of job benefits actually drive employee happiness in family firms. In their study, they analyze employee reviews of more than 2,000 German family and non-family firms from the employer evaluation platform Kununu. The study shows that especially job benefits of care and job benefits of status work better in family firms, while job benefits of life quality are less effective.
