Into the digital future with the Economic Forum

In May, under the heading “Together into the Future”, the town of Oestrich-Winkel, supported by the EBS Universität, organised their first economic forum. It offers local companies, the city and university experts the opportunity to network and exchange ideas on economic topics. In his presentation on the opportunities of online marketing, EBS Professor Dr. Arne Buchwald showed how medium-sized companies can hold their own against large companies.

The aim of the Oestrich-Winkeler Economic Forum, initiated by Mayor Michael Heil, is to establish a local economic network, joining forces to meet the regional and supraregional economic challenges. Around 60 participants from business, politics and administration attended the first meeting in the town’s Bürgersaal, including tradesmen, entrepreneurs and representatives of the city and the university. “We at the EBS are very happy to support the idea of establishing an economic forum and strengthening the Oestrich-Winkel location. As a university firmly rooted in the Rheingau region, we look forward to the resulting projects and cooperation with local partners,” says Professor Kreutzer, Dean of EBS Business School.

The speech by EBS Professor Arne Buchwald on the possibilities of online marketing, especially for medium-sized companies, inspired many listeners. The key message: servicing and using online platforms is particularly profitable for smaller companies. “Especially with social media marketing, small and medium-sized companies nowadays have the chance to compete against large corporations in the ‘digital lion’s den’. Because this tool does not require budgets in the millions, just continuous maintenance,” says the expert for digital transformation. The expert also gave helpful tips on the topic of data protection and the upcoming new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

After the official part, the participants networked over refreshing drinks and snacks, discussing and exchanging ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. The town of Oestrich-Winkel now wants to follow this up, making the platform a permanent fixture in the town’s calender. Benjamin Mayer, organiser of the event and responsible for the town’s economic development and location marketing, stated that “the Economic Forum should become a fixed and regular event for joint networking and the exchange of ideas”. The Oestrich-Winkeler Economic Forum will therefore be held twice a year in May and November. We look forward to future inspiring meetings!
