German Employment Law Conference 2019
The two-day conference, to which about 90 national and international representatives from business and science had registered, offered a comprehensive insight into the central topics of German and international labour law in the form of lectures and workshops.
The event began with a welcome address and an introductory lecture on “Agile Frameworks and German Works Councils” by Prof. Dr. Daniel Klocke, LL.M. oec., Professor of Civil Law, Business Law, Labour Law and Legal Theory at EBS. Afterwards, the participants were able to choose from various lectures. For example, Dr. Bernd Borgmann, LL.M., Partner at DLA Piper, spoke on the subject of employee secondment, while Dr. Marco Arteaga, also Partner at DLA Piper, spoke on the innovations in German company pension law. In the last presentation of the first conference day, Julia Zange, Global Head of Labor Law at Fresenius Medical Care, and DLA Piper partner Dr. Jens Kirchner shared their experiences regarding internal compliance investigations.
The second day started with an interview with John Mayes, Chief HR Officer at SoftwareONE, by Dr. Kai Bodenstedt, Partner at DLA Piper and Head of the German Practice Group Employment, on the topic “Post Acquisition Employment Integration in Multiple Jurisdictions”, followed by the presentation of the two DLA Piper partners Eva Einfeldt and Verena Grentzenberg on employment data protection. In particular, the topic of data protection, which is still very topical and always relevant, encouraged the participants to discuss and ask questions, which certainly provided new insights for everyday professional life. The event ended with an entertaining lecture by Prof. Dr. Gregor Thüsing LL.M., Director of the Institute for Labour Law and Social Security Law at the University of Bonn, entitled “The Myths of Anti-Discrimination and other Oddities of German Employment Law”.
Prof. Dr. Emanuel V. Towfigh: “After an extremely successful event, we are delighted that the ‘German Employment Law Conference’ met with such a positive response and was also expressed in the feedback of the participants: ‘Thanks a mil - a wonderful conference’ ‘A great event’”
