12 July 2018 | By: Kathrin Casaroli, Academic Manager Real Estate Management Institute

At the end of the summer month of June, the EBS Real Estate Management Institute team set off for England to attend the ERES Conference.

As one of the most important scientific real estate conferences worldwide, the annual ERES is regarded as the leading forum for real estate research and education in Europe. It was founded as part of the global International Real Estate Society (IRES) to create and promote regular exchanges between academics and professionals. The conference addresses companies, academics, political decision-makers and doctoral candidates who are interested and active in or in real estate research and thus offers the exciting opportunity to get to know a correspondingly broad network. This year, on the 25th anniversary of ERES, Henley Business School (University of Reading) near London made its premises available for the event over four days from 27 to 31 June. The scientific papers dealt with a broad range of topics in real estate research - from continuous topics such as the opportunities and risks in’Finance and Investment’ to current issues of’Urban Development’,’Affordability’ or the possibilities of’New Technology’, to further aspects of’Real Estate Education’. The doctoral students of the EBS Real Estate Management Institute were also well represented: Nicolas Julian Seyler presented his research on’Sustainable Real Estate’: ‘The Mindful Occupant: The Effects of Mindfulness on Environmental Real Estate User Behaviors at Home and at the Office’ and Heiko Kirchhain presented his paper ‘The impact of exogenous shocks on house prices. The case of the Volkswagen-emission scandal’ in the field of’Housing Economics’. The presentation of the research projects of Katharina Johanna Oetken and Florian Schüßler is planned for the upcoming ERES 2019 in Paris. The thematic panels and keynote lectures were complemented by an exclusive’Social Programme’: the participants were invited to the’Welcome Reception’ and a Flying Buffet in the’Town Hall’, those interested in culture were delighted to visit the Reading Museum and a’Gala Dinner’ at an English country estate, over a glass of wine and a breathtaking sunset, constructive discussions with representatives of international universities and scientific staff took place. ERES offers a great opportunity to get inspired, broaden and deepen your horizons on a professional level and make numerous new contacts - we had a great time, until next year!
