In Switzerland, the investment volume of sustainable funds exceeds that of conventional products for the first time at 700 billion, but the measurable contribution to solving global environmental problems is missing.

Professor Falko Paetzold, Deputy Director of the EBS Impact Institute and Head of the Center for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth (CSP) at the University of Zurich, is quoted in the NZZ am Sonntag in an article on sustainable investments. Paetzold clarifies the effectiveness of sustainable investments based on a study he co-published. According to him, the positive effect of sustainable investments falls short of expectations. Paetzold refers to these types of investments as “light green” investments and compares them to a placebo that primarily eases the conscience of investors, but does not bring about any measurable change.
