More than 11,000 litres of fresh, cooled drinking water were used since November 2018 at EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht in Oestrich-Winkel and Wiesbaden.

As part of a pilot project launched by the Taunusstein-based company BRITA in cooperation with EBS Universität, students have round-the-clock access to fresh drinking water, as a sustainable ecological alternative to bottled water and in a flexible subscription model - made possible by the innovative service BRITA Spot.

At three locations (Wiesbaden Atrium, Oestrich-Winkel Mensa and Oestrich-Winkel Kiep Center) students will find water dispensers where they can tap as much water as they want at any time. The prerequisite for this is a subscription that can be taken out online for one, three or six months.

Advantages for students & environment

The students rate the pilot positively. In addition to the “better taste than tap water”, they state that “carrying water bottles” is no longer necessary and sum up in an anonymous mini survey: “My drinking water behaviour has changed positively”. For EBS Universität, in addition to the satisfaction of its students, the sustainability factor is particularly important, because the BRITA-filtered water flows directly into drinking bottles brought along by the students themselves, which contributes to the reduction of plastic waste.
