Guest Lecture of Lucas Schmitt from TechQuartier at EBS
“How to build an innovation ecosystem?” We invited Lucas Daniel Schmitt, Head of Innovation Products at TechQuartier to our MSc course on “Managing StrategicAlliances”. Lucas develops innovation programs for large corporations, public institutions, and SMEs to partner with startups and talents.
We gained the following insights:
- Fostering cooperation in an open innovation ecosystem requires both a structured exchange between the single parties (investors-startups; startups-corporates) and informal networking events.
- Ecosystem-based business models offer the chance to integrate more resources from a pool of connected actors; however, for such multi-player settings to create value, dedicated orchestration practices beyond hierarchies or markets are necessary.
- TechQuartier, as an ecosystem orchestrator, brings together the different players to catalyze innovation: startups, corporate firms, consultancies, public institutions, governmental bodies, educators, and so many more.
- Ecosystem orchestrators have an important role in building the community and setting up matchmaking programs so that actors with complementary resources can find each other and co-create value for customers.
