On Monday, EBS student Niklas Gieb was awarded the prize of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht. The prize endowed with 1000 euros is awarded each year to a foreign student at the EBS for exceptional social commitment and outstanding academic achievement.

The German-Swedish bachelor student Niklas Gieb has set himself the goal of academic excellence throughout his studies and is one of the top 10 percent of the bachelor’s year 2016. With his active involvement in the EBS community, Niklas Gieb is virtually unequaled in living the EBSpirit. In addition to organising and conducting workshops for incoming students. he worked in a leading position in the student “resort” EBS Invest. When attending education fairs, he also informs pupils about student life and the possibilities of studying at EBS Universität. With his varied cultural and educational background, he has actively presented concrete proposals for improving the educational quality of EBS Universität.

Niklas has always been involved in social issues since his school days, when he organised weekly activities in a nearby retirement home for seven months. At EBS he recently led a new social project with a small group of students and donated 400 pairs of shoes to nine local charities in the Rheingau and a partner organisation in Uganda, in cooperation with one of Germany’s leading shoe retailers.

“Niklas distinguishes himself through his continuous involvement in social projects abroad and at EBS through a wide range of activities and academic achievements. He is a responsible and open-minded student who has proven to be a strong representative of EBS Universität and is an extremely suitable candidate for the DAAD scholarship,” said Prof. Markus Kreutzer, Dean of the Business School, at the award ceremony on Monday.

The Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD) is the world’s largest funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers. Every year, together with German universities, it honours international students who have distinguished themselves both through their excellent academic achievements and their outstanding social and intercultural commitment. A jury of students, staff and faculty members selects the winner from among all proposed candidates. The EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht has been awarding this prize for more than ten years.
