Coaching at EBS

The programme has two essential perspectives: that of the coachees - in other words of the EBS students - and their particular requirements, and the coach’s training aspect.

Prof. Dr. Backhausen He was instrumental in designing the concept of the EBS Coaching Programme.

We have developed this programme because coaching is one of the most effective and innovative instruments in personal development, particularly for executives. With this, the students are able not only to learn about this instrument at an early stage of their course but, at the same time, to see for themselves how valuable it can be. «

The coaches are all experienced executives who have participated in the standard training as “Systemic Coach (EBS)”, and are thus familiarised with the university’s philosophy. In most cases they have an international background. This impressive spectrum ranges from investment bankers to management consultants, actors and opera singers.

Each EBS student - whether on a bachelor or a master course, foreign exchange or doctoral student - can benefit from personal coaching, which includes up to four sessions per semester. This involves an intensive and open dialogue between coachee and coach. These coaching sessions, a facultative option, are intended to help the students to further develop their personalities. The coaching course is part of the academic education and is unique in the field of German higher education, and is not offered at any other university in German-speaking countries. The programme is based on the realisation that the so-called “soft skills”, that is social and personal competence, together with intellectual abilities, are becoming increasingly important for study courses and pose challenges for future work activities. The EBS Coaching Programme raises students’ awareness of issues critical to both their private and professional lives, and supports their personal development. Coachees use the coaching sessions to discuss the following topics with their coach:

  • self-reflection: e.g. Where are my strengths and weaknesses?_ or also to discuss the POAV papers documented during the interview which every student attends during the admission process to our university

  • Career planning and defining objectives: e.g. How can I achieve my goals?

  • Performance: e.g. How do I cope with stress and high performance requirements?

  • Change management: e.g. How do I deal with changes and challenges?

Dates for coaching interviews

The coaches come to Oestrich-Winkel (Campus Schloss) on appointed days to meet our students for the coaching interviews. You will find the dates for 2016 and 2017 on our intranet my.ebs.

Additional coaching interviews take place in the Atrium in Wiesbaden for our Law School students. You will also find these dates on my.ebs.

In urgent cases, we will be pleased to offer our students the possibility to consult a coach from our coaching pool. We will then arrange special appointments. Please do not hesitate to contact us!
