Areas of Research

Convinced that business administration in particular can greatly benefit from an exchange of ideas between scientific research and economic practice, Prof. Alexander Pohl links his academic research and teaching activities with his main occupation in industry and vice versa. Thus students profit both from his theoretical and practice-oriented teaching.

In his research Prof. Pohl particularly focuses on issues concerning the areas of open innovation and price management. On both areas numerous specialized articles –reviewed in double-blind processes – have been published in high-level scientific journals. Moreover, his research results have been published in various compendiums and dictionaries of economic terminology.

Main areas of research

  • Marketing of technological products and services
  • Innovation & technology management
  • Open innovation & communities
  • Cloud-computing & ERP systems
  • Behavioral pricing
  • Quantitative methods in market research

Professor Pohl’s scientific research areas correlate with his full-time engagement as CEO of the cloud computing company Scopevisio AG. Scopevisio is developing a new generation of business software that is delivered as SaaS (software as a service) through the internet. Cloud Computing acts as the technological basis for all components of this business software which is certified by PricewaterhouseCoopers at regular intervals. In 2010 Scopevisio AG’s accounting software won the title of the “ERP System of the Year” in a competition annually arranged by the Center for Enterprise Research. Scopevisio AG was founded in 2007 and is based in Bonn, currently employing 40 staff. Prof. Pohl is also a partner with HW Partners AG which is a private equity company investing in technological enterprises with great opportunities for growth. Both companies offer first- class internships and initial career possibilities to the students of the EBS Business School.

Prior to his functions as a member of the Executive Board at Scopevisio AG and HW Partners AG, Professor Pohl had been occupied in the Management of Agfa Healthcare (previously GWI AG), in Bonn and in Paris and as a partner of the management consulting firm Simon, Kucher & Partner in Germany and France.
