Award of the honorary doctorate to Prof. Dr. iur. Stefan Muckel by Prof. Dr. iur. Emanuel V. Towfigh, Dean of the EBS Law School.

On Thursday, June 27, 2019, the German lawyer and university professor Prof. Dr. iur. Stefan Muckel received an honorary doctorate from the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht for his services to academic research and teaching. The certificate was presented by Prof. Emanuel V. Towfigh, Dean of EBS Law School.

The award of an honorary doctorate to Prof. Stefan Muckel is based on his outstanding commitment to research and teaching. Muckel has been teaching regularly at EBS Universität since Spring 2013, most recently with “Crash Courses” in Constitutional and Administrative Law, full-day courses in which students are given a comprehensive introduction to the essential contents of exam-relevant constitutional law as well as constitutional procedural law and general administrative law, in preparation for the first examination. Prof. Muckel has also been awarded the teaching prize of the student body of the law faculty at the University of Cologne on several occasions for particularly good teaching, most recently in 2016 for his commitment to the Großer Examenskurs, a university revision course in which he teaches all the constitutional and administrative law relevant to the first examination.

In scientific terms Prof. Muckel has ten independent book publications, some of them already in several editions, more than 90 scientific articles in journals or collected works as well as about a dozen judgement annotations, lexicon articles and commentations. In the meantime he has written nearly 300 decision reviews for the “Legal Worksheets”. He has also published nearly a hundred book reviews. His textbook “Juristische Kurzlehrbücher” (short legal textbooks), published together with the Protestant church law expert Heinrich de Wall, was so well received by experts and students that it has been reprinted every two to three years since then. The book can already be regarded as one of the most successful textbooks on ecclesiastical law in the German language. Muckel repeatedly puts his thoughts up for discussion in presentations to a highly informed and critical audience of experts. But he also often lectures in academies, training centres and adult education centres on the education and further training of an audience that is not familiar with public law issues.

“The Doctoral Commission laudation, approved by the Honorary Committee and the Senate, concludes that Mr Muckel has rendered outstanding services to academic research and teaching. As long-time companions, I am very pleased to present this honorary doctorate to Professor Muckel today”, said University President Markus Ogorek.
