A Word from the Dean of Research

- Dean of Research,
Professor Ansgar Richter, PhD
Since its foundation and state recognition as a university, the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht has come a long way. Today, EBS is among the top business schools in Germany. The EQUIS accreditation and the accreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat) attest to our quality.
It is the declared aim of EBS to establish itself as one of the leading business schools in Europe, which requires not only providing excellent undergraduate, graduate and executive education, but also establishing a strong reputation in the international academic community. To build and maintain this reputation a university must pursue and produce innovative and attractive research.
EBS has consciously taken up this challenge: As early as 2003, EBS was the first university in Germany to introduce an incentive system for research output that especially rewards the publication of articles in internationally renowned journals and participation in top-ranked international conferences. The junior professorship programme introduced at EBS in 2004 plays a significant role in fostering young researchers, and the doctoral programme offered in cooperation with renowned partner universities requires doctoral candidates to face the competition at an early stage, for instance through participation in international conferences.
Although establishing an international reputation in research is a long-term undertaking, noteworthy success is already visible. Over the last few years, EBS has strengthened its senior faculty through the addition of several researchers who are well-established in the international community in their respective research fields, and who contribute considerably towards strenthening the top position of EBS. Today, our junior professors are much sought after by well-known national and international institutions, and the number of articles with recent research findings published in national and international journals is steadily increasing. EBS is investing systematically in expanding internationally competitive research activities, by making additional funding available to support research stays abroad and participation in international conferences.
As a consequence of its strengthened position in research EBS is developing into an attractive research location. Year for year, we are welcoming outstanding guest researchers and together with a strong adjunct faculty carry out joint research projects. EBS researchers have an international network and are in contact with top institutions throughout the world; their research activities cover a wide spectrum and are continually being expanded.
The most recent research findings are presented in the EBS Working Papers series. In addition, the websites of each department and institute provide a comprehensive overview of their respective research findings. If you have any questions or suggestions, you are welcome to contact our staff in the office of the Vice Dean Research at any time.
