Social innovation combines entrepreneurial action with seeking solutions to social problems. Granting micro-credits in developing countries, the car-sharing boom and designing multigenerational homes are impressive examples of this development. With the "Summer School for Social Innovators" Intel Corporation and EBS Universität under the academic direction of the "Competence Center for Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (SISE)" are playing a pioneering role in the education of tomorrow's social entrepreneurs.
The "Summer School for Social Innovators" is part of the global competition "Intel® Business Challenge (IBC". The best participants in the Summer School will automatically take part in the final of the "Intel® Business Challenge Europe 2012" in Sopot, Poland (24 - 26 September) and have the chance to qualify for the world final, which will take place at the University of California Berkeley.
Participants will benefit from lectures and enjoy the support of successful social entrepreneurs to acquire the knowledge and competencies needed to successfully implement their social ideas and play an active role in shaping our social future. In particular, participants will become familiar with the instruments and methods used in the successful development and implementation of social innovation as well as the approaches for the development of business models and the establishment of distribution channels and business partnerships. Those interested in the programme are required to submit in advance a written proposal, which should not only outline the idea itself, but should also describe its positive impact on society. A detailed overview of the varied programme and the exact schedule can be found at www.ebs.edu/socialinnovation. Professor Peter Russo, head of the centre, underlines the significance of this cooperation: "In entering into this partnership with Intel, one of the pioneers of social innovation, and by offering this continuing education programme as an important part of the world famous "Intel® Business Challenge", EBS Universität is underlining the leading role it plays in the field of social innovation in Germany and Europe."
The "Competence Center Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (SISE)" at EBS Business School is one of the leading academic institutions in the field of social innovation and social entrepreneurship in German-speaking countries. The Center is characterized by a wide range of competencies in research, teaching and executive education, which it applies to address present-day challenges in social practice. On the one hand, for instance, and in close cooperation with the World Vision Institute, SISE conducts research into fields in Germany where there is a need for social innovation. On the other hand, it analyses and develops strategic concepts for social innovation within companies and social institutions and also provides support for the implementation of these concepts.
