Investments II
The standard methods of investment valuation under uncertainty as well as of capital market theory are presented. They are implemented by means of exercises and a case study. Different methods from the field of mathematics and decision theory as well as neo-classical theories are employed.
Corporate Finance and Valuation
The emphasis of this course lies on conveying fundamental and universally accepted methods of financial planning, financial decision-making, and firm valuation. In the context of exercises, a case study, and a practitioner presentation, practical issues of corporate finance and valuation are addressed.
Selected Issues in Investments
Seminar in Master Course
We examine solutions to current challenges in private investment and wealth management. Seminar papers cover the areas legal and regulatory environment, business models, financial planning, advisory approaches, alternative investments, and sales process optimization. We further focus on the central issue in empirical capital markets research of pricing of equity securities. Students verify neoclassical asset pricing models and investigate the existence of capital market anomalies.
Fall Term 2009
Introduction to Investmentbanking
This course deals with the role of investment banks as the link between corporate finance from the companies' perspective and investments from the point of view of asset management. Students become acquainted with the functions of financial markets and intermediaries which coordinate financial relationships of investors and capital seekers. The course is highly quantitative and is based on several Excel-based problem sets and a comprehensive case study. In addition to the lecture, teams have to give a presentation on a current issue that is relevant for investment banks and capital markets.

Introduction to Investmentbanking
This course explains the activities of investment banks as financial intermediaries and focuses on four subjects: capital procurement, capital investment, structuring of single financial transactions, and value maximisation through restructuring of companies/parts of companies. The course also covers legal, institutional, and national issues of European capital markets. It is held as an interactive lecture with two practice sessions.
Capital Markets and Investments
The course starts with a brief overview on the functionalities of capital markets and means of their classification. Subsequently, static and dynamic methods of evaluating and planning investments are widely discussed and implemented by means of exercises and homework. Additionally, methods from the field of mathematics and decision theory are employed.

Project Course Financial Services
Student teams shall act as academic consultants to a large universal bank. Through application of suitable concepts and research they must find convincing solutions to real-world problems. Topics include market trends and product innovation, industry value chains, sales management and performance management. The bank will be involved in the project selection and will provide students with relevant data and access to experts.
